THRIFT SHOP

Open Friday & Saturday all Summer
Hours: 9AM - 1PM

Thrift ShopThe summer before the Thrift Shop opened, two visitors from the Cape Cod UU Church asked for a tour of our church.  When they saw the Friendship Room downstairs, they shared with us how successful their summer thrift shop had been, and commented that our space would be ideal for a thrift shop.  The next summer we opened our new Thrift Shop with just about anything that members, friends of UUSR, and neighbors donated.  The next year, we started soliciting used items.  More and more came in.  People who might not visit a church were eager to see what we had.

We also began our art shows in the vestry and they received increased attention when the Thrift Shop was open.  It was very convenient for many thrift shop browsers to go upstairs and enjoy the art display, after shopping in the Thrift Shop.

Thrift ShopThis year, we opened our doors to a newly renovated shop.  Thanks to Jeff and Manon Martyn, we now have display cabinets and new bookcases, which Jeff and his crew, as well as Coley Bryan and Bob Beattie, helped install.  And, in the months to come, the floor will get a coat of paint, further improving the appearance of The Thrift Shop.

We currently do little resale of clothing, but have partnered with Francie's Boutique, a consignment store on Main Street.  To look into consigning your good quality items, just make an appointment at Francie's, and if Leslie, the owner, accepts the clothing and accessories you donate, she will issue a check to the UUSR at the end of the quarter-year.  She also offers a 20% discount on top of her very reasonable prices if you donate items as well as make a purchase at her store.

Thrift ShopItems from the Thrift Shop that we cannot sell are donated to Wellspring, Pathways, the Peace Corps, Veterans Homes, and any other charitable organization needing these goods.  Last year, a Senior Citizen's Day Care Group from Blackburn Circle came "shopping".  The joy of seeing senior citizens able to shop affordably for anything that caught their eye was indescribable!

We are open to serve the public Fridays and Saturdays, beginning the weekend after the Rockport Public Schools close in June until the Saturday of Labor Day weekend.  We cannot accept furniture or TVs, but we hope to set up a virtual selling board in order to facilitate sales of items we cannot fit into the Thrift Shop.  We are planning a season's end sale for late August.
